School is in Session…..Once Again

One of the things I’m looking forward to this year is graduating from grad school. In 2022, I quietly started pursuing a master’s degree in business administration. After searching for a few years for payable options to study online at a university in the US, I found the University of the People (UOPeople). This is an accredited online university with a very low tuition cost and offers scholarships to those who can’t afford to pay those fees. This means you can earn a degree at no cost at this University.

So far, I’ve enjoyed my experience at UOPeople for the most part. I passed all the core courses and am currently in the electives phase. My plan is to graduate in August this year. I hoped to graduate before my iconic vacation in June, but dropping a course earlier in the program threw me off. But hey!! There is no perfect plan, so I keep my spirits high and soldier on.

I definitely recommend UOPeople to those aspiring to earn a degree but can’t afford the regular tuition fees. As is always the case, some aspects take away from the great experience I’ve been having. First, because I hold a Bachelor’s in Business Administration, most of the coursework is familiar and just a refreshment of my prior knowledge. This makes the MBA program a cakewalk for me. Then there’s the peer assessment part of the program, which is designed to create engagement and exchange of knowledge and views during the program. This is the part where it often takes away from the great experience. At the beginning of the program, I encountered many students who did not understand how to peer assess and would often miss the mark on their grades. I also encountered instructors who took things too seriously when it came to calling out plagiarism in assignments. Some of them were so busy trying to detect plagiarism that there was no time left to give constructive feedback to the students. For me, these issues didn’t stop me from pursuing a degree.
